Ganesh Chaturthi, the festival of lord ganesh is celebrated by Hindus in mid period of August to September. Ganesh Chaturthi also, Known as ‘Vinayaka Chavithi’. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as birthday of Lord Ganesh. A clay model of Lord Ganesh is made 3-4months prior to the Ganesh Chatuthi festival. The size of ganesh varies height from 2/4th of an inch to over 30 feet.
A platform with wood is created 5 days back prior to the festival to place Lord Ganesh. Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated for a 10 days period starting from the day of festival. At the day of Ganesh Chaturthi festival lord ganesh is lifted and placed on the platform constructed giving sounds ‘Ganapati Bappa Moria’ or ‘Jai Bolo Ganesh Mahraj Ki Jai’. A priest is called and Pooja(prayer) is done to lord ganesh. Coconut, 21'modakas', jaggery and red flowers are offered to lord ganesh.At the 10th day evening lord ganesh is taken through the cities and streets with dancing, singing, and giving sounds ‘Ganapathi Bappa Moriya’. As a symbolizing ritual see-off lord ganesh is immersed in a river or sea so that lord is taking away misfortunes done by the man with him.
